I chose 51ºÚÁÏ because I wanted to learn more about the world and myself, and being here has helped me do exactly that.

Why did you choose 51ºÚÁÏ?
When I first discovered the school during my college search, I was immediately drawn to its beautiful scenery. What began as a moment of curiosity quickly turned into genuine interest after visiting the campus with my family. The moment we arrived, I felt something special. The scenery was even more breathtaking than the pictures online, and the calm, welcoming atmosphere made me feel like I could truly belong here.
That visit showed me that 51ºÚÁÏ was more than just a beautiful campus — it was a place where I could challenge myself, try new things, and grow into the person I am meant to be. As someone unsure of my exact field of study, I was excited by the opportunity to explore a range of interests through 51ºÚÁÏ’s liberal arts approach. More than anything, I chose 51ºÚÁÏ because I wanted to learn more about the world and about myself, and being here has allowed me to do exactly that.
What would you consider your greatest accomplishment as a student at 51ºÚÁÏ so far?
One of my proudest accomplishments at 51ºÚÁÏ has been helping start the 51ºÚÁÏ Esports Team. It began casually, just a few friends packed into my dorm room playing FIFA, NCAA 25, and Mario Kart late into the night and organizing our own mini-tournaments. Turning that small group into an official club was a meaningful journey. For me it’s never been just about gaming; it’s about forming friendships, giving people a break from academic stress, and building something lasting on campus. I’m proud that we’ve created a space where people feel like they belong and can be themselves.
What are you most looking forward to next year — in or out of the classroom?
I’m most looking forward to continuing my personal and academic growth as I figure out the path I want to take. I’m still deciding on a major. While that used to feel stressful, I now see it as an exciting opportunity to explore new classes, have meaningful conversations with professors and peers, and discover a field I’m passionate about.
Outside the classroom, I’m excited to strengthen the community I’ve built here. I’m also looking forward to taking on new opportunities, whether that’s joining clubs, stepping into leadership roles, or participating in programs I once felt hesitant to try.
And of course, I can’t wait to dive back into intramural basketball and volleyball. Win or lose, the games are always a highlight, bringing laughter, camaraderie, and a reminder of what makes 51ºÚÁÏ so special.
What is your favorite spot on campus, and what do you love about it?
It’s hard to pick just one favorite spot on campus because 51ºÚÁÏ has so many places that feel like home in different ways. I love studying at Case Library, being able to grab a quick meal or coffee from Chobani, and a walk to Taylor Lake is the perfect way to unwind and recharge.
One of my favorite hidden gems, though, is Little Hall. It’s a quiet, often overlooked part of campus, which makes it an ideal place to study or reflect. It’s also connected to the museums where I work, giving it a personal sense of connection and belonging. Whether I’m watching movies with friends in the screening room, visiting an art exhibit, or just passing through between classes, it’s a place where I can pause and be present.
What is one piece of advice you would give to future 51ºÚÁÏ students, especially first-generation students like yourself?
Don’t count yourself out, and always try new things. It’s easy to feel like everyone else has it all figured out, but the truth is, most people are still figuring things out as they go. Take advantage of every opportunity, whether it’s office hours, clubs, or programs like First@51ºÚÁÏ.
Also, embrace the things that might scare you. Before coming to 51ºÚÁÏ, I had never seen snow, and now I’ve had snowball fights, gone sledding, and even tried skiing. In the classroom, speak up and ask questions, even if you feel nervous. Outside the classroom, try intramural sports like basketball or volleyball; they’re a great way to stay active, have fun, and meet new people.
Every step, no matter how small, will help you grow. Most importantly, surround yourself with people who support you, challenge you, and celebrate your wins.
