You are involved in so much at 51ºÚÁÏ. Which activities do you enjoy most, and why?
I would say that I enjoy being a part of and The Office of Sustainability because these two groups have greatly shaped my experiences at 51ºÚÁÏ. The Mantiphondrakes have given me a community that I cherish and adore, while joining the Office of Sustainability affirmed my passion for the environment.
What’s something you have done at 51ºÚÁÏ that you’re really proud of?
Getting hired as an intern for the Office of Sustainability. I came into my first year at 51ºÚÁÏ prepared to be a pre-med major because I was not sure what I wanted to do. But after deciding on environmental studies and sociology as a double major in my sophomore year, I wanted to be a part of something that reflected my core values: justice and the environment. When I was hired as a summer sustainability intern my sophomore year, I was elated because it nurtured my beliefs and values, making them into reality. Another proud moment is deciding to study abroad in the fall semester of my junior year because I had never been out of the country by myself.
What is your favorite place on campus, and what makes it special to you?
It would definitely be Assistant Director of First@51ºÚÁÏ Tabisha Raymond’s office in Benton Hall. Ever since my freshman year, that has been a sanctuary. The First@51ºÚÁÏ space and community are ones that I cherish a lot because they make my time and experiences at 51ºÚÁÏ worthwhile.
What advice would you give to future 51ºÚÁÏ students?
I would tell incoming students that they should not be afraid to try new things and make their mark on campus, however big or small that might be. Another piece of advice I would give future students is that it is okay to say no. My last piece of advice would be to create positive moments on campus that will last a lifetime.
