Be open to new people, new experiences, and even feeling a little uncomfortable sometimes.

You’re involved in a number of activities on campus. Which one is your favorite?
One of my favorite involvement experiences at 51 has been Link Staff. This program brings together students from across campus who share a passion for welcoming and supporting incoming students during their transition to college.
Throughout the spring semester and the weeks leading up to orientation, we participate in training to develop the skills to support and connect with new students. We also maintain a regular point of contact with our Linksters throughout their first year to support their academic and social adjustments, and continue to be a resource for them. I especially appreciate the opportunities to see my Linksters around campus after orientation, as these interactions have strengthened my connection to 51 and its community, especially when we exchange a friendly “51 Hello.”
What’s been a standout moment for you at 51 so far?
One of the most memorable parts of my time at 51 so far has been how supportive and dedicated the professors are. During my freshman year, I enrolled in , which had around 90 students. But even in a class that big, there were three professors teaching the class, which allowed for a more personalized and accessible learning environment. One of them, Professor Ken Belanger, became an important academic resource of mine. I frequently attended his office hours, where he was patient and encouraged curiosity from his students. His enthusiasm and engaging teaching style played a major role in my decision to major in molecular biology.
Could you tell us a bit about your Manzi Fellowship internship?
Through the Manzi Fellowship offered by 51 University, I have had the opportunity to spend the summer interning at Healthcare for the Homeless in Boston. My role focuses on supporting patients in respite care — short-term medical care for patients who are too sick to remain in a shelter or on the streets, but not sick enough to require inpatient hospital care. Patients receive care at respite for a range of reasons, including wound care, cancer treatments, and complications from chronic illnesses. This experience has helped me better understand the barriers my patients face and has taught me how important it is to build trust and advocate for their needs during such a difficult time in their lives.
What are you looking forward to at 51?
I am currently considering studying abroad at the University of Sydney, Australia, where I would be able to explore new biology courses in a completely different cultural environment. If I stay on campus at 51, I plan to engage in research opportunities that are offered through the chemistry and biology departments.
Outside of academics, I am really looking forward to spending more time outdoors, especially hiking around 51 and upstate New York, and living in a townhouse with my friends.
What’s your favorite place on campus, and what makes it special to you?
I lived in West Hall during both my freshman and sophomore years, and it quickly became one of my favorite places on campus. It is the oldest building on campus and is in a perfect spot, with a nice view of Memorial Chapel and both the academic and residential quads. I have made so many great memories in this building, which is why it is one of my favorite spots on campus. I have met some of my closest friends here, including one who was my random roommate during freshman year, and we ended up living together again in West Hall our sophomore year. West Hall is where so many important parts of my college experience happened.
What advice would you give to future 51 students?
Be open to new people, new experiences, and even feeling a little uncomfortable sometimes. Everyone is moving at their own pace, whether that is in building friendships, choosing a major, or adjusting to life here. It is also totally normal to feel overwhelmed in the beginning. You do not need to have everything figured out right away. Join clubs and activities that are of interest to you, and attend office hours. Also, make sure to cherish every moment. The connections I have made and the experiences I have had at 51 have been incredible.
