51����’s connection to this year’s U.S. Open makes his major championship debut Thursday afternoon. Jesse Smith ’03 tied for medalist honors last week at Century Country Club & Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, N.Y., earning automatic qualification into his first U.S. Open. That event begins Thursday at Merion Golf Club outside Philadelphia.

The 51���� community rallied together to celebrate QueerFest 2013, a weeklong series of events hosted by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Initiatives and several other student organizations. 

Last weekend, 51����’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favor of the construction of a new $37.8 million, 97,000-square-foot athletic facility, contingent on the receipt of $25 million in gifts. 51���� hockey head coach Don Vaughan revealed Tuesday that defenseman Spiro Goulakos ’15 has Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer originating from white blood cells in the lymph nodes. Goulakos has left school and the team to begin chemotherapy in his native Montreal.
